We thought we posted this a few weeks ago. Cindy Sherman looks "Cindy Sherman" as she she does Balenciaga for New York Fashion Week.
Japanese artist Tomoo Gokita has a solo show up in Brussels at aliceday until October 23.
Friend of the gallery photographer Taye Hansberry of Stuff She Likes called us bright and early this morning to discuss the work of talented fashion illustrator Danny Roberts. We adore his series on Bloggers that inspire him.
Here is his self portrait
One of my favorite artist Frank Stella recently made the headlines when one of his pieces sold at a Christie's Auction for 3x the intended price. Stella's Kufa Gate was estimated at $120-180,000 and went for $410,500. The piece was created during a time when the artist had been traveling through the Middle East and Asia.
Sisley Art Project happens tonight during Fashion Week in Milan. They rounded up some amazing artists for the charity one night exhibition for the Andy Warhol Museum, including some of Andy's own studio assistants and protege's. Click the thumbnails for a larger view of the amazing re-designed leather motorcycle jackets.

We love this hybrid band 1 half Malawi 1 part Swede 1 part London. And we love their new video Julia. This song has been in heavy rotation since we first met the group last year when they came to rock LA at a PUMA party.
We visited the Graff Lab this weekend, there were some artists working the walls when we arrived. If you don't know or haven't visited the Graff Lab than it is a hub for any and every street artist, many travel from all points of the globe to come and work the walls. Its like an urban amusement park for the graffiti scene. Its also very connected to its surrounding community and they were having a Thrill-a-thon as we were leaving.
While were on the subject of Street Art we'd also like to acknowledge the LA Times piece on MOCA LA announcing a major Street Art Retrospective at Geffen Contemporary in 2011. LA artist Mister Cartoon's Ice Cream truck shown below will be included in the exhibition.
Good friend Justin BUA has a show that opened at Hold Up Art in Little Tokyo, its up until the end of the month so go check it.
Video of BUA that gallery director/founder MJP shot last year as part of a series for the Grammy Museum.
I was just completely inspired by one artist in one video with the first thing he said within one minute of it playing.

We met photographer Nathaniel Ward when he was showing at Scope in Miami during Art Basel 09. He sent us an email the other day and has a show that opened recently on the Upper Eaststide, NYC. Check After the Women of Paradise Road up at the wild project. Exhibition/Installation curated by Mr. & Mrs. Amani Olu. The exhibition is on view until October 2.
Lady Gaga donned a meat dress again, by designer Franc Fernandez. It got us wandering what an "aftermath" collaboration with Jennifer Rubell would spawn. We enjoyed her Old Fashioned installation at last year's Art Basel Miami.

We'd like to remember Tupac Shakur, he meant a lot to my generation. We have to give it to his mother Afeni for keeping his memory alive & legacy in tact. June 16, 1971 - September 13, 1996

Gallery friend and AFRIKAN BAAZAR artist Cassi Amanda Gibson has been working on this project. Were really proud of what she is doing to help the Uganda Skate Park. More info HERE

One year ago Cassi Amanda Gibson visited their handmade skatepark and emailed us photos. Since then the kids of the skateboard union and Jackson Mubiru, the union’s founder, have consistently inspired us and everyone else who we shared their story with.
To say that skateboarding will put an end to a 20 year long civil conflict would be naive, but the principals exercised by the Uganda Skateboard Union have, and will continue to change lives for the better. In a region where international non-profits and NGO’s providing aid are often viewed with skepticism, or viewed as parental, these youth have created their own social epicenter where their positivity and creativity is infectious.
Their numbers are growing exponentially every day, and with the growing numbers, gear and resources are being run through faster then they can arrive in the region. Sparrow was stoked to team up with Sky High Skateshop, Special Sauce, Supreme, and Boundless NYC in helping provide the Union with over 100 pairs of brand new skate shoes, dozens of new decks, trucks, clothes, books & magazines. The kids were stoked too. Cassi and her sister Nicolette returned to Kampala twice over the course of the year to bring the kids more supplies and to film a short video for http://sparrowmedia.net
